Join the FPDWC for a blast into the past! The Joliet Iron Works was once the biggest buisness in Joliet. Many early immigrants to Joliet came to work at the iron works plan, which was integral to the development of Joleit as a city and to industrial revolution throughout the country. Today, all that remains are the fragments of blast furnaces, stoves, gas washers and other buildings that were part of the plant. But the remains tell the story of the early process of puifying iron and of the people that worked there, many working under very stressful condistions. Join us for an interesting tour of this historic site and learn about this important part of our past. The trails are paved with some stairs and inclines. An accessible portable restroom is available. Please bring water and dress for the weather. 9am – 11am .
