Roy is best known for hosting Hee Haw, one of the first nationally televised country variety shows in the United States and frequently guest-hosting for Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show. Clark is highly regarded as both a guitarist and banjo player, called “a genius with God given gifts” by fellow musician Glen Campbell and is also skilled in classical guitar as well as several other instruments. While he has had hit songs as a pop vocalist including, “Yesterday, When I Was Young” and “Thank God and Greyhound,” his instrumental skill had an enormous effect on succeeding generations of both bluegrass and country musicians. A partial list of his many awards include: Entertainer of the Year, Academy of Country Music Comedy Act of the Year and Academy of Country Music Picker of the Year.
